preconceived narratives

this is bothering me a lot. and I say this as a "retired" academic with an active interest in taxonomic revisions. when did it become a norm for ppl to sit on a rotting fence established on outdated data? keyboard warriors furiously typing "NOO you can't keep several bettas of the same sex they fight, it's in their name" but do we know that? solitary behaviors have preconditions setting up the trigger sign, no? dry seasons in SEA have ponds evaporate to a few inches deep this animal clearly has the complexity to preserve its population when open territories are scarce. some of these end all be all internet activism shows more self contained ignorance than genuine support for a cause it's baffling. like "you can't bath your sugar gliders" being another classic. which implies they die/fall ill upon contact with water. does it never rain in Australia? it's a nuanced debate on reaching a balance between hygiene & limitations of standardized care. not that simple.
