Aavesham And The Legacy Of Ranga

Spoilers Ahead So finally the next rage from Malayalam cinema of 2024, 'Aavesham' starts streaming on Prime, despite running successfully in theatres even in Delhi-NCR in its 5th week! Despite an irritating lag down in its final 40 minutes before the pre-climax, the film is a hands-down example of a class act brilliantly brought by FaFaa (Fahadh Faasil) who comes up with the finest performance of his career. He tarnishes the masculinity image that he showed in his grey character from 'Kumbalangi Nights' (2019). As Ranga, he is a hardcore gangster who is feared by many but is misunderstood. He has a soft corner that he wishes to show but can't due to the 'external forces' that keep him quiet. His monologue in the end reminds you of Ranveer Singh's monologue in the film 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani' (2023) where his character desires to be touched, hugged and loved. Exactly, FaFaa's Ranga cries for some male intimacy (a clear representation of many Indian men today) which he fails in finding in his mentor Reddy, the education trio of Aju, Bibi and Shanthan, who betray him and even most of his goons, who are there only for booze and money. He always asks the trio whether they are happy. Usually the way I used to do. But failed. (As usual) He has a soft corner, which becomes an innocent child, the moment Bibi's mother calls him. For Ranga's mother left him, as the former couldn't leave violence. Our Hero, doesnt want bloodshed and he is so innocent that he actually stops his own party, when Bibi's mother calls up. Imagine a Don pulling up this. He finds camaraderie in the giant Amban (a riveting Sajin Gopu) who is his man-friday. He is Ranga's Jai or Circuit, who is killer yet goofy by every form. While Ranga deals with bloodshed, he tries to avoid it personally and lets his men do it for him. He gives a clear warning to do well educationally rather than taking up weapons for fun. Director Jithu Madhavan wins in creating a memorable character in a partly forgettable film that thankfully has got no romantic relief. #malayalam #kerala #indiancinema #cinema #movies #filmmaking #amazon #amazonprime #amazonprimevideo #films #filmsandseries
